France Loses to Germany in Friendly Match
Les Bleus Fall for the First Time in 2023
Didier Deschamps' 150th Match at Helm Ends in Defeat
In a closely contested and intense friendly match, the France national football team suffered its first loss of 2023 against a more clinical Germany side. The match, which took place on November 16th, marked the 150th in charge for coach Didier Deschamps.
Despite a strong showing from Les Bleus, Germany proved to be more opportunistic in front of goal. In the 6th minute, striker Niclas Füllkrug capitalized on a defensive error to score the game's only goal.
France had numerous chances to equalize, but failed to convert their opportunities. Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann were both guilty of missing clear-cut chances, while Karim Benzema was well-marshalled by the German defense.
The loss is a setback for Deschamps, who had seen his team win four of their previous five matches. However, Les Bleus will have a chance to bounce back in their upcoming friendlies against Portugal and Italy in March.
